Ake Blomqvist was bom in Sweden in 1941. After taking an undergraduate degree in business administration at the Stockholm School of Economics, he went to Princeton University for graduate work and was awarded the Ph.D. degree in Economics in 1971. In 1968 he went to the University of Western Ontario, London, Ontario, where he currently is Associate Professor in the Department of Economics.
Professor Blomqvist's writings in the professional journals have focussed on problems of economic development in low-income countries. He has spent several years teaching and doing research in Africa. He is also interested in various problems of micro-economic policy, and has recently written on the issue of pricing gasoline in Canada.
