Allan Gotlieb is a Companion, Order of Canada and was educated in California and Boston where he edited the Harvard Law Review and at Oxford University. He is the author of books on international law and diplomacy and was the Canadian Ambassador to the United States from 1981-1989. This was followed by chairmanship of the Canada Council. Mr Gotlieb is currently a senior consultant with Stikeman Elliott in Toronto and co-chairman and honorary publisher of Saturday Night Magazine. He is also chairman of the Donner Canadian Foundation and a director of numerous boards and research institutes. Mr Gotlieb's achievements have been recognized internationally with the award of a number of prestigious prizes, including the Vinerian prize from Oxford and the Deak Prize from the American Society of International Law.
