Amanda Ellis
Amanda Ellis is an economist who has specialised in international trade and development economics, previously working at the OECD in Paris and the United Nations in Geneva and managing international aid programs for women in Viet Nam, Laos and Cambodia.
Amanda is now Head of Women's Markets and National Manager for Women in Business at Westpac, the only Australian bank with a dedicated Women in Business unit. The unit comprises specialist managers in each state of Australia who, in addition to providing access to the full range of financial services for both business and personal needs, run educational seminars, networking and business mentoring programs. From a standing start in 1999 the Women in Business program now has an annualised turn over of half a billion dollars.
Amanda's special interest is helping to educate young women to become financially independent. Through the support of the Women in Business unit, over 5,000 women all around Australia attend seminars about financial independence each year. The author of Random House Australia title, Women's Business Women's Wealth, released in July 2002, Amanda also writes a regular column for Vive Magazine on women and business/finance issues. Amanda is a finalist in the 2002 Australian Outstanding Woman of the Year in Non-Traditional Areas of Work and Study awards coordinated by Swinburn University.
Currently chair of the Global Banking Alliance for Women, Amanda speaks internationally on women and finance. She represented Australia at the 2nd Global Conference on Women Entrepreneurs in Paris and spoke most recently at the East West Center Conference on Globalisation in Kuala Lumpur in July 2002. Amanda has been a regular on the judging panel of the national Telstra Businesswomen of the Year Awards every year since 1999.
Amanda serves on the National Breast Cancer Women's Advisory Network and the Board of the East-West Center Association in Hawaii. She is a member of the Australian Businesswomen's Network, Women in Finance, Zonta International and the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance.
