Indra de Soysa

Professor, Norwegian University of Science and Technology

Indra de Soysa is professor of political science at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway. He holds a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Alabama in the United States. He has worked previously at the International Peace Research Institute in Oslo (PRIO) and the University of Bonn in Germany. His research interests are primarily in the field of political economy and he has published widely in top international journals, such as International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, Journal of Peace Research, World Development, and Social Science and Medicine, to name a few. Prof. de Soysa is a member of the Royal Norwegian Academy of Science and Letters and serves on several editorial boards of top international journals.

Economic Freedom of the World: 2017 Annual Report

The Economic Freedom of the World: 2017 Annual Report is the world’s premier measurement of economic freedom, ranking countries based on five areas: size of government, legal structure and security of property rights, access to sound money, freedom to trade internationally, and regulation of credit, labour and business. This year’s report compares 159 countries and territories. In this year’s ranking, which is based on 2015 data, Hong Kong is again number one, Canada dropped to 11th from the 5th spot last year and is tied with the United States.
