Dr. K. Fiona Cubitt is a Research Associate at the Centre for Aquaculture and Environmental Research at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. She is also Fellow of the Centre for Social Innovation Research at the University of New Brunswick in Fredericton. She read for her PhD in applied fish behaviour at the University of Glasgow, Scotland and EWOS Forskningstaskon, Lonningdal, Norway.
Her background in fish behaviour and aquaculture led her to Canada where her research program includes investigation of the ecological, behavioral and social effects of culturing fish in aquaculture and in the laboratory, the conservation of potentially affected species, and the effects of man-made structures on wild fish migration. She is currently leading a multidisciplinary assessment of the potential that organic aquaculture has for Canadian markets. Dr. Cubitt has consulted on fish welfare nationally and internationally, for research institutes, the aquaculture industry, associations and councils.
