About the Event
This graduate seminar-style training program is for journalists seeking to enhance their economic knowledge and reporting skills, and network with their peers. Through lectures, simulations, and discussions, three experienced economics professors will demonstrate how economics can be used to better understand the world around us, and provide real, relevant examples from Canadian society.
Bursaries
The Fraser Institute will provide a bursary to cover the cost of travel, accommodation (if applicable), and the program fee. The program fee includes tuition, materials, and included meals. Requesting a bursary does not affect application status and agreeing to pay the program fee does not guarantee acceptance into one of the programs. Bursary requests can be made on the application form. Please note: some organization's policies do not allow employees to accept bursaries that pay for professional development.
Accommodation
The Fraser Institute will pay the cost of accommodation for non-local participants for the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights of a program (May 3, 4, and 5). The Fraser Institute will provide Sunday night accommodation (May 6) only if necessary due to departing flight availability, which will be determined at the sole discretion of the Fraser Institute. Participants are considered to be “local” if they live within approximately 60 km of the program (Greater Toronto residents).
Travel
The Fraser Institute will provide a bursary to cover the cost of return economy travel to the program via: plane, train, bus or ferry, or for mileage and parking for local participants. The Fraser Institute will not cover other travel expenses (i.e. taxis, airport parking, non-included meals, parking tickets etc.)
Program Selection
Please indicate which program(s) you are applying for on the application form. There are a limited number of spaces available, and selection of participants for each program is at the sole discretion of the Fraser Institute. The format and content will be the same for both the Vancouver and Toronto programs; only the facilitators will change.
Please note: we will try to accommodate all program location requests; however, each program will feature journalists from a variety of backgrounds and locations, which may result in some applicants not being awarded their preferred program choice (if applicable).
The application deadline in Monday, February 5, 2018 at 5:00 pm (PST).
