Our Explore Public Policy Issues seminars are back! These post-secondary student seminars are a perfect networking opportunity for students interested in economics, political science, business and public policy, though students of all backgrounds are welcome. Come join us as we return to Calgary for a day full of informative presentations from top scholars, a lively Q&A and peer-to-peer discussion. A light breakfast and lunch are provided alongside complimentary beverages. Please arrive before 10:00am MT to check-in. Registration is free for students.

A limited number of free parking will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Indigo lot shared with the Delta. Parking attendants will be available from 9am – 10am to help, but seminar participants will need to indicate they are attending the Fraser Institute’s seminar. Those arriving after 10am will be required to pay for parking at regular rates.

Bus Information

Complimentary roundtrip ground transportation to this seminar is available for post-secondary students studying in Edmonton. Limited seats are available. A coach bus will depart Edmonton at approximately 6:30am and depart Calgary at approximately 3:45pm. When completing your registration form, simply indicate you require roundtrip transportation from Edmonton and details will be communicated to you once they are available.

Is Canadian Trade Too Dependent on the U.S.?

Canada’s trading relationships are evolving, and there are potentially large risks and opportunities ahead. How should we think about our trade with different countries and what are policy options for the federal government? Is Canada too dependent on the U.S.? To help answer these important questions, Dr. Tombe will present the latest data and analysis, which suggests liberalizing trade as broadly as possible is ideal. This can be demonstrated by improving trade relations with India, expanding the TPP, and getting serious about our trade relationship with the UK. But at the end of the day, the U.S. will always be our most valuable partner.
